We know Pearl was/is in love with Rose. People think it's one-sided (myself included). However, this just happened:

I could see it being one-sided at various points as they drift closer together and further apart over millennia. I mean, what would you expect to happen in such an extremely long-term relationship? Unlike Garnet, their relationship probably isn't entirely stable, even if it's only evident over thousands of years.

It was probably one-sided during the war, then not one-sided during the story flashbacks, and one-sided again after Rose and Greg got serious. There was probably a lot of fluctuation in between. Probably more complicated than that overall, but I don't really know as much about love as I should.

Oh yes, I'm sure it could very much have been on and off in reciprocation on Rose's part. How, when, and why Rose's feelings would wax and wane are unknown, but I can definitely see it.

I mean, I can definitely see Rose being pansexual - it doesn't matter if you're male or female - if she likes you, she likes you. And she really likes Greg.

Perhaps Rose and Pearl were on a mutual reciprocation page and then Greg happened and Pearl felt like Rose was stolen from her but she couldn't outright say anything about it because perhaps while Pearl and Rose were mutual, perhaps these feelings at the time were unspoken and Rose wasn't really Pearl's to begin with, so Rose wasn't technically stolen from her BUT to Pearl, it felt like Rose was stolen.

Does that make sense? Haha

i can subscribe to that; i would totally buy that rose's affection, romantic at the very least, for pearl was rather inconsistent. i also like the idea of rose being pansexual. i think gems, as an alien species, probably have different ideas of romance, and that's backed up by 'we need to talk'. it makes me wonder about the caste system they had on homeworld, what type of hierarchy they had. we've established that rose is basically royalty (at least that's totally my headcanon) and so i also wonder what types of relationships they could pursue.

i totally ship pearl/rose though, at least pearl's absolute devotion to rose; their shipname should be prose :')

I think that Rose is polyamorous, but she went about it in a bad manner. Consistently. For thousands of years. In relationships with other humans and Pearl.

This isn't a bad thing, however. At least in terms of Rose's character. As a person, yeah that's bad. But this shows a bad side of Rose that we, quite frankly, needed to see.

Also, I think they were in a romantic relationship prior to the war, all the way up to Steven's birth. It was this relationship that influenced Pearl to join Rose's side. They never really broke up, but Rainbow Quartz was no permanent fusion. Instead, it was more a means for Pearl to show humans attracted to Rose that "she's mine," as well as for Rose to see if they were the right parent for her half-human half-gem successor (Steven). This is why Rainbow Quartz has four eyes. Pearl and Rose have very different goals with the fusion. Pearl to ensure Rose is hers, and Rose to see if the human is alright with polyamory.

Greg happened to be the first one that was not discouraged by Rainbow Quartz, rather encouraged by her.
