Historical Friction [There will be Spoilers!]

I saw this preview thing on Tumblr.



I see Sapphire, Peridot, Lapis, Rose, and Pearl, as well as Mayor Dewey.

What do these gems have to do with the founding of Beach City? Why are they on the promotional art? Are they going to be in the episode?

i wanted that to actually happen in the episode maaaaan. but i totally see the connection with it as a promo pic, in some areas. but why is peridot there lol.

the episode was funny :') in other words, we're all going to die tomorrow. i need my pearl resolve. or not resolve however it happens to play out.

The episode was light indeed.

The last few episodes were pretty light. Will tomorrow be considered heavy by Rebecca?

I love how they talked about how characters need flaws, as if the Crewniverse expected parts of the fandom to hate Pearl for doing bad things.

i don't think hating her is the right answer; i think holding her accountable for her actions, expecting her to have consequences for the things she did to garnet is what we as a fandom should be doing.

hating is taking it to a level it doesn't need to be, is signifying the fandom that doesn't understand pearl and her actions and more important, her motives. it's asking for complexity and then being upset at the complexity of character you're given. it's a fandom that is insatiable.

pearl is experiencing very human emotions as an alien rock form; it's absurd then to judge her by our human standards. on that same front, it's absurd to think that she'd be able to process them fully either.

We've had too many light episodes in a row, we will suffer the darkness soon.
On a lighter note Pearl is your stander ed over zealous mom. She just adores her half human baby

@opalescent: I agree with that statement completely. We should be saying that yeah, she screwed up and did so big time, but we shouldn't be complaining that we have this complex character that sometimes doesn't do the best things.

Pearl reflects reality, at least the best an alien rock oyster vomit (based on my research, that's what pearls essentially are) can. No one will be 100% perfect, even if they want to be. Pearl strives for perfection, but we, the audience, know full well she is very far from perfect.

@HessoniteAngel: Agreed. Friend Ship will be the heaviest episode of Steven Universe yet. Even Rebecca Sugar considers the episode heavy, I bet.

And that is why I can't trust those who say Pearl only cares about Steven because his gem is Rose Quartz's. Pearl loves Steven a lot. Very much like how a mom would. And moms typically have poor audience etiquette, at least when her child is younger.
