| So, what if the gem monsters that the crystal gems are always fighting are actually leftover fusions gone wrong from battles and wars past? Much like Malachite (Lapis and Jasper) was a forced fusion, what if a lot of gems during the war fused to make themselves stronger, even though they weren't very compatible? Then, much like Sugilite took over Garnet and Amethyst, what if the fused self of the incompatible gems became it's own being? Thus, the fused gem was never happy, and ended up becoming a monster in an attempt to break itself apart. After all, Malachite looked pretty monstrous herself. Who knows what time could do to an unsuitable pair of fused gems?
Pearl said, "you're losing yourselves!", indicating that when a powerful or incompatible fusion happens, it's possible for the fused gem to gain total control. So, it's entirely possible for Lapis and Jasper to become one forever. Of course, given Garnet is always a fusion, some gems are compatible, and can survive as separate entities while fused.
So, what do you think? Are corrupted gems fusions gone wrong? |

| They could be. I think for me, I'm leaning more towards they regenerated too quickly and too frequently.
Perhaps there's multiple types of corrupted gems? Such as fusion corruption, regeneration corruption, etc. |

| So in Keeping it Together, Peridot was tinkering with just putting random gem shards together for fusions (and they were coming out wrong). I'm not sure if this was a new thing or what was going on in the war. I'm guessing this went on in the war, but the Crystal Gems and Rose didn't know exactly what was happening to their comrades until now. So, the monsters are corrupted gems and the Crystal Gems are bubbling them and I think Rose was going to take care of them. |

| In addition to the gem amalgam monsters, their similar bubbled look as the centipedle, and Sugilite, don't forget Alexandrite! She was pretty unstable and monstrous, and the gems were only willing to do a three way fusion after it was decided that they had no other choice in order to help Steven and Connie. I like this theory. |

| The only confirmed(ish) fusion corruption we've seen is the bird thing from giant woman. Does it mean that garnet could become corrupt and ruby and sapphire would be lost forever (or until healed) |

| I don't think so. Because as she mentioned, Ruby and Sapphire's relationship is stable. Their fusion is consensual and Ruby and Sapphire love each other deeply. I don't think corruption is possible. However, it's clear there are incompatible fusions like Sugilite and Malachite. Sugilite because of personalities and Malachite because it wasn't truly consensual.
What we know thus far...ish, is that corrupt gems are probably from forced fusion of the Crystal Gems' fallen comrades by Homeworld.

| I didn't mean corrupted like that. I meant Garnet could become a corrupted monter (and ruby and sapphire's gems would become smaller version of what garnet was when garnet was defeated or split) thats all i meant. Not that Ruby and Sapphires could become corrupted and lose themselfs |
